Has anyone noticed that Pi Day (March 14) is particularly special this year?
What is Pi Day?
According to Wikipedia, Pi Day is an annual celebration commemorating the mathematical constant π (pi). Pi Day is observed on March 14 (or 3/14 in the month/day date format), since 3, 1, and 4 are the first three significant digits of π in decimal form.
Pi Day is on March 14 because of the number 3.14. March is the 3rd month. And day 14, to represent the first two decimal places.
Why is Pi Day special this year?
We have never celebrated the next two decimal number before. Pi is 3.141592654… And this is the only time in our lifetime that we can celebrate the “15” portion of Pi. With it being 2015 this year, we can.
But what do we call this “special Pi Day”?
