Do you remember what Black Friday used to be?
Planning your shopping outing carefully to know where to go first, second, etc. Standing in line waiting for stores to open at the ungodly hour of midnight. Rushing for that “must have” item and either boxing someone else out or getting boxed out in the process… and those are kind words!
Businesses needed Black Friday to get ahead. If you aren’t familiar, it has to do with being financially “in the red” (behind/in-debt) to “in the black” (ahead/no debt). This shopping holiday didn’t exist when I was little. Then it became a mecca, a tradition, an event to be sure!
Now we shop in-person so much less. I doubt there are lines. They created a second “Black Friday” for online shopping, calling it “Cyber Monday”. Then they created an in-between “Black Friday”, calling it “Small Business Saturday.” All in the name of driving sales. Not to mention, these sales start weeks in advance now when Christmas decorations are in stores before Halloween!
If you shop for Summer Camps with Classroom Antics, you’ll find that Black Friday means Black FRIDAY! Why Black Friday? We offer our deepest discount, from 12:00 am to 11:59 pm. THAT’S IT. And you know what? It works for us! People who want or need the discount will register. People that don’t want to commit so early will wait and lose the discount. As it should be.
